About the AWGB

It is an international non-profit making organisation dedicated to the advancement and promotion of woodturning.

It consists of individual members and affiliated and Associated Branches throughout the country.

It exists to provide education, information and organisation to those interested in woodturning.

Members include hobbyists, professionals, gallery owners, collectors of wood and tool suppliers.

The Association of Woodturners of Great Britain was formed in August 1987. It has an elected committee of both amateur and professional turners.

bullet

It is organised at national level by an elected executive committee and at Branch level by local members.

bullet

The AWGB is currently made up of over 50 affiliated local groups of woodturners (branches) as well as individual members.

The current membership is in excess of 3000 individual members.

The Aims of the Association

bulletTo foster a greater awareness, both nationally and internationally, of the wood turners (turners) art and craft.
bulletTo provide a forum to encourage communication and an exchange of views amongst wood turners of all nations.
bulletTo make collectors, galleries, architects, suppliers and manufacturers of turners' equipment and other interested parties aware of the turners' work and turners' needs.
bulletTo encourage and participate in  the development of training standards and educational facilities for turning.
bulletTo act as the body representative for the interest of turners, nationally and internationally.
bulletTo provide a members' newsletter at regular intervals on relevant news.
bulletTo arrange national and international seminars and exhibitions that encourage all to aim for and achieve high quality turnery.
bulletTo act as the national body to advise and communicate with publications and other parts of the media to foster a greater public awareness of the turners' art and craft.
bulletTo communicate with government and similar bodies relevant to the arts and crafts movements.
